Born in 1907 and died in 1988 in Milan.
“A Peter Pan comparable in stature to Leonardo” (quoted from art critic Pierre Restany). This quote speaks volumes about the sheer talent of Italian artist Bruno Munari, whose creativity endured through successive avant-gardes, from futurism to surrealism to concrete art – a movement he started in Milan in 1947. His prolific work mirrors the curiosity and fantasy that come to the fore in his children’s book (the books of Bruno Munari, by Giorgio Maffei), and other Illegible books, 1949, as well as in the pointless, preposterous sculptures he recently showed at frac île-de-france – le plateau in the exhibition Le sentiment des choses in 2012.
